NISA Hotel, London Road, Glasgow

I & H Brown Limited appointed Soil Engineering’s Ground Engineering Services to stabilise problematic mine-workings within the Glasgow Splint Coal Seam.

The work was to be carried out in the London Road area of Glasgow prior to the construction of a new multi-storey hotel complex.

The site was located adjacent to London Road and adjoined the National Indoor Sports Arena site of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The 12-week contract was designed by geotechnical specialists from Glasgow City Council and included:

  • Forming over 2000 No. treatment holes
  • Drilling to depths of over 50m
  • Over 100,000 linear metres of drilling

The work was carried out by the following 9 No. rotary percussive rigs and pressure grouting systems utilising a designed cement/PFA grout.

  • 3 No. Soilmec SM14
  • 2 No. MDT 80
  • 2 No. Boart Longyear DB100
  • 2 No. EGT 700/1500

The site was managed and completed by a team of 28 direct employees of Soil engineering Ground Engineering Services.
