Manchester Sewer Network
Soil Engineering have been awarded a £430,000 site investigation contract under the United Utilities Framework Agreement.
The investigation is located in the Trafford area of Manchester and forms part of the preliminary works for the improvement of the Manchester Sewer System. United Utilities has undertaken a substantial programme of improvement work in order to alleviate the problems caused by a number of UIDs located throughout its sewer network. A UID (Unsatisfactory Intermittent Discharge) occurs when a spill from an overflow on a sewer network affect the environmental standards for the water body into which it discharges.
The work comprises the formation of boreholes using a combination of cable percussive and rotary coring techniques together with in situ testing including 8 Pressuremeter tests and 6 plate bearing tests. Boreholes will be formed up to 75m deep using the sophisticated Geobore ‘S’ Wireline drilling system.
Soil Engineering intends to undertake the project using in house drilling plant and resources.
