SEGL Continue to Meet the Demand for Drilling Parameter Recording Data

Due to increasing demand from clients SEGL also continue to invest in the latest technology for Drilling Parameter Recording [DPR] to ensure our continued place as market leaders in the use of this technology for UK ground investigations, a position we have occupied since 2009. A total of 7 of our rotary and rotary-percussive rigs are now fully equipped with sensors and data loggers. These include the compact tracked DB515, 3 No. tracked DB520s, a Marooka mounted DB520, a Soilmec SM-8 and a recently acquired Soilmec SM-8G. Many of our drilling foremen are now fully trained and experienced in delivering DPR data which is captured from sensors fitted to each rig which continuously and automatically collect data on all aspects of drilling, in real time, without interfering with the drilling process.

With the publication in 2015 of the draft International Standard ISO 22476-15 on ‘Measuring while Drilling’ to which SEGL have made substantial contributions and with major consultants going on public record that they foresee this as being very much the future of rotary drilling we can confidently expect that this will continue to be an area of growing demand. The equipment used by SEGL meets the highest quality class defined in the draft Standard.

Over recent months we have supplied data for numerous contracts including Rocky Lane, Phoenix Way, Crossrail C510 and Wigan Bus Interchange. All three rigs at the Olympicopolis site in East London and the two rigs used at Thorpe Park, Leeds also produced high quality DPR data as specified by the respective employers whilst most recently the contract for the Coal Authority at Hauxley and East Chevington used DPR data down to nearly 80m to confirm the precise depth of worked coal seams. As part of our work on the Shieldhall Tunnel project in Scotland we have also successfully used DPR with rotary percussive probe drilling on both the Jura Street and Titwood Road sections.
