Pollock Retail Park & Realignment works to the M77, Scotland
Client: Malcolm Construction Services
Engineer: Mason Evans
Contract Value: £1,820,000
In preparation for construction of the new prestigious £200m, 75 acre Pollock Centre retail park, Norwest Holst Soil Engineering were contracted to Malcolm Construction Services, the main earthworks contractor, to undertake Design and Build grouting works for the treatment of two shafts and consolidation of 3 shallow coal seams. The area treated included retail space and areas to enable the design and construction of a new access directly to the M77 to the west of Glasgow. The works also incorporated treatment to a new underpass to the M77.
On a tight programme working closely with Malcolms, the works were successfully completed within the contract period whilst maintaining access to an existing Tesco store. The scheme involved rotary percussive drilling of 4575 holes, 61452m of drilling and placement of 17000t of pfa/cement grout. A cement silo was used and at peak production 700 tonnes of grout was injected into the workings in a single day.
Problems were dealt with on a day to day basis and significant design changes were incorporated into the works including road realignment. The site developed a “Partnering” style of working and a difficult project was delivered to the satisfaction of all involved.
