Consolidation of Mine Workings
The site of the former West Hartford Colliery near Cramlington is being developed as a business park. As part of the site enablement Soil Engineering were instructed to consolidate old mine workings in the Yard Coal Seam.
The following work was completed:
• 9600 Boreholes were sunk
• 257726m of drilling
• 51000 tonnes of cement/ PFA
• Grout was injected via these holes into the workings
• 2 mineshafts were drilled and consolidated by grouting and capped by heavily reinforced concrete pads 8m square
• 1 mine adit was drilled and grouted
• 2 ponds were drained, desilted and backfilled with suitable clay
• 169000m of topsoil strip and reinstatement carried out
• 11300m of imported clay spread and compacted over the site.
