A830 Arisaig to Loch Nan Uamh Improvement
Client: The Highlands Council
Contract Value: £190,000
The Highlands Council appointed Soil Engineering to determine the ground conditions for the new alignment of the A830 Trunk Road.
The ground investigation comprised trial pitting, cable percussive drilling, rotary rock drilling with core extraction, CCTV and 'Televiewer' survey, 3-arm caliper with natural gamma logging, installation of standpipes, inspection pits and/ or pavement cores in existing carriageway along with sampling and in situ testing.
The whole of the investigation was undertaken in environmentally sensitive areas with a number of borehole positions within a Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC). Further restrictions were due to the investigation positions being within areas of extremely difficult access.
