Assistant Laboratory Technician (Materials Testing)

Soil Engineering are a long established leader in the UK Geotechnical Sector. Delivering both Ground Investigation and Drill and Grout services from three bases across the country, we are capable of undertaking a wide range of investigative and remediation techniques.

Supporting our Ground Investigation business, we maintain one of the country’s largest single site Geotechnical Laboratories, UKAS accredited for over 40 test disciplines, which undertakes testing for internal and external projects. The laboratory also maintains our In-Situ testing capability, including CBR and Plate Bearing tests.

To Complement and strengthen our existing teams, a position has become available for an Assistant Lab Technician to work within our Geotechnical Laboratory in Leeds.
Main Purpose of Job:

To work within our busy Geotechnical Material Testing Laboratory, based in Leeds, preparing and testing soil and rock samples.

Key Tasks:

To follow British Standard procedures for a variety of geotechnical tests;

To neatly and accurately record data;

To log and prepare samples for test;

To maintain a high quality standard of work at all times;

To meet deadlines and prioritise workload.

Knowledge and Experience Required:

All required training will be provided, however, the following would be desirable:

Previous Laboratory experience

GCSEs or equivalent grades A-C in English and Maths;

Basic knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office;

The role will involve physical manual handling.

Physical Working Environment:

The role will be full time, 37.5 hours a week over 5 days, based at our Materials Testing Laboratory in Leeds.
