2025 on a (post)card

As 2025 draws to a close, and our business travels wind down, we’re reflecting on some of the journeys made throughout the company this year

Journeys to the depths…

Our rotary coring crews have been plumbing new depths, with a company record set on Merseyside when a cored borehole reached just over 300m, recovering 105mm core throughout its full depth. Meanwhile crews also significantly exceeded the 100m mark on several occasions investigating minewater rebound and geothermal energy storage, with boreholes then reamed out up to 300mm diameter in some locations.

Journeys to the heights

One of our crews took a rather different approach to mobilisation in early autumn, hitching a ride on a road-railer to get their rig to the top of a mountain, allowing them to undertake a rock anchoring project with no road access.

Journey improvement

A number of our crews and suppliers spent the spring completing works on the A9 Dualling scheme. Their longstanding involvement with the project gradually improving road user experience on one of Scotland’s key arterial routes. The sonic drilling rig added to our fleet in 2024 played a key part in the successful delivery of works in this technically and logistically challenging environment.

Mobility Journey

2025 also saw continued investment in our plant fleet, with a number of low ground pressure units added. Providing flexible platforms for rig mounting and mobile welfare, these units have been deployed across some of our most remote schemes, including long-term works on the Isle of Skye, and renewable energy projects throughout Scotland. Meanwhile in Greater Manchester our Grouting team resorted to their favourite high-flying approach to access, with another major crane lift to install a safety platform and drilling rig, facilitating mine entry stabilisation in a very challenging setting.

Career Journeys

As we bid farewell to 2025 and look forward to 2026, we have a number of career opportunities within the business. Whether you want to join our Laboratory, or the highly successful Estimating department in Leeds, or you’re more inclined towards a site-based role as a Plant Fitter or Engineering Geologist there’s likely to be something to interest you in our careers directory.
