Highly Commended Efforts
Soil Engineering received a pair of Highly Commended citations at the 2025 Ground Engineering Awards
With nine shortlisted entries across seven categories at this year’s very competitive awards, coming away without a trophy was always going to be a bit of a disappointment. However, spirits were lifted significantly by the revelation that we had sufficiently impressed the judges that two of our entries received high commendations.
The first of our highly commended citations came in the Sustainability Award. This reflected our willingness to share the benefits of our own research freely with our peers to help improve our sector. Revealing the results of a two-year programme to reduce our overall fuel consumption is intended to help the whole sector achieve carbon savings more quickly. The judging panel’s feedback stated “It demonstrated that by prioritising one key target (fuel reduction) significant change can be realised. However, of equal, if not greater importance, was Soil Engineering’s appreciation that if they could achieve these results, so could others within the industry, and that it was of key importance for them to share the learning. Bravo!“
Our second commendation of the evening came in the Ground Investigation Specialist of the Year category. Recognising our excellence in delivery of ground investigation across the UK, including no fewer than three projects also shortlisted in the 2025 awards, we’re delighted that the judges identified some of our key “non-technical” strengths too. They commented “Clear social value and commitment to workforce as a priority. Very strong relationship with group of clients and repeat customers.” We’re very proud to be a people focussed business, and that the strength of our collaborations with clients over many years is so evident. While recognition at an annual awards is great to see, it’s really the long-term associations built on trust, delivery and value which reward us the most.
Twin commendations, one key supplier
With the construction and civil engineering sectors placing ever more emphasis in sustainability in design, it’s useful to think of these commendations in tandem, rather than in isolation. A business which is willing to share learning, push for more sustainable working practices, is an industry leader in developing collaborative relationships to deliver the most complex of projects, and is committed to being a responsible employer? If that’s the kind of contractor you want to deliver your projects, you can #buildonus
