Miles for Mental Health
Staff, Suppliers, Consultants and Clients all pulled together for this year’s Safety Week “Tour de Soil Engineering” racking up the miles for mental health.
An inclusive event across the business, the Tour saw walkers, runners and of course cyclists grinding away through the week in a cumulative challenge to cover the 799 non-motorway route. Virtually encompassing a start at our office in Coatbridge, then Leeds, the Burscough office, our major site in Derby and the Camberley office, the route then hopped across the channel to reach our Soletanche Freyssinet parent company office on the outskirts of Paris.
Bonus miles
Such was the level of enthusiasm the final mileage accumulated was a fantastic 865.15, enough to see the team theoretically well back towards the coast. This is an astounding achievement given that the miles were mainly being covered in break times, pre- and post-work gym sessions, lunchtime and evening walks, and even at local sports clubs. There were even a few meetings undertaken on the exercise bikes for good measure.
Charity Challenge
Of course all this effort has purpose. Not only providing an activity focus around our Mental Health Awareness campaign during Safety Week, but also creating an opportunity to support Mind. Our participants, including Drillers, Engineers, Clients, Safety, Plant Yard, Admin and Data staff from across the country have raised over £1200 for the charity on the course of the week.
The charity portal will remain open for a period now we’ve finished the ride, so its not too late to donate here in recognition of this great effort.
In the gallery below you’ll find all manner of contributions, from lunchtime walks in the woods and post-work runs, to break-time bursts, and even keeping the wheels turning in morning meetings. Our site teams even got photos of our clients on the bikes too. Make sure you click on the photos for the full effect!
